"I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library."
- Jorge Luis Borges
My name is Joy and I work full-time as a technical writer and editor at an environmental engineering firm in Dallas, Texas. I am in my final year in pursuit of a degree in Information and Library Sciences through an online program at the University of Maine at Augusta. My ultimate goal is to serve as a high school or university librarian.
So why be a librarian?
Well, it's like this...In the movie The Dark Knight Rises, the character of Miranda Tate says to Bruce Wayne, "If you want to save the world, you have to trust it." Libraries, and the librarians that serve in them, are know for providing open-minded and accepting environments to accommodate learning and growth. I strongly feel that when given an environment such as this, which encourages different backgrounds, views, and ideals, people can be trusted to make educated choices and decisions. Through my work as a librarian I hope to "save the world" by helping individuals develop the knowledge and acquire the tools necessary to improve their lives, and in turn, our world.
Since this is a site about books, here are a few of my favorites:
I have something of a talent for being able to know what books to recommend to people when they mention their interests and I haven't know anyone to be disappointed yet! If you need something new to check out - just ask!
Beyond reading I enjoy baseball and football, I passionately love the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. I try to practice yoga daily and upon completion of my ILS degree I plan to finish my 200-hour yoga teacher certification. I fell in love with the practice of yoga almost three years ago and I want to share this with the world. In addition, I'm a huge fan of almost all genres of music and a day does not go by that my iPod is not put to use.
This website was created as a project for one of my courses and the contributors include myself as well as very helpful and wonderful friends and family. I hope this site gives you input on a variety of books that you can enjoy.
Thanks for taking the time to look over this site. If you would ever like to contribute please use the form on the contact page or e-mail me directly at [email protected].
